Basic Hygiene and Compliance

What is this course?  
This course in designed to give production personnel an insight into the reasons for control measures relating to a company's compliance with industry standards.  According to needs emphasis can be placed on hygiene and/or quality compliance.  There is an optional 15 minute test with certification.


Topics covered:
·      Compliance - working with industry standards.
·      What we need to achieve (quality and/or hygiene).
·     
Basic hygiene in practice.
·     
Record keeping.
·      What to do when things go wrong.
·      Optional 15 minute multi-choice test.

This training helps participants to:
·        
Play their part in achieving compliance.
·     
Understand why and how quality and hygiene are achieved.
·         Recognise the customer and consumer perspective. 
·         How to respond to problems proactively.

Course length, cost and venue:

Supervision for Compliance

What is this course?  
A course for production supervisors, team leaders and others with responsibility for day to day production.  As well as considering the background to certificated standards, the course offers guidance on making the case for compliance, and dealing with related questions.  According to needs emphasis can be placed on hygiene and/or quality compliance.  Role play is normally included.  The course concludes with an interactive revision session.

·      Self assessment by 'exercises' in the production area.

Leadership, motivation and training, including -
·     
Role-play exercises simulating 'real life'
·      Interactive revision and consolidation.

This training helps participants to:
·        
Guide production staff in achieving compliance.

Command knowledge and understanding to aid shop floor supervision.
·         Recognise the customer and consumer perspective. 
·         Deal with questions and doubts expressed by colleagues.

Course length, cost and venue:

Compliance for Managers

What is this course?  
Developed from a number of courses that have supported the packaging industry over recent years, this course brings together content that has proved most valuable to industry professionals.  Two topic areas are addressed - aspects related to management, and those of a technical nature.  It is primarily intended for 'in-house' delivery and is always tailored to the circumstances of the client company, following preliminary discussions.


Management topics covered:
·      Industry standards (BRC/ISO).
·      Policy and responsibility.

Leadership, motivation and training, including -

Staff motivation and training.
·      System documentation.
·      Inspections and auditing.
·      Liaison with customers
·      Hazard and Risk management.
 
Technical topics covered:
·      HACCP, HARM and TACCP.
·      Premises and equipment.

Housekeeping and waste disposal.
·      Pest prevention and control.
·      Maintenance and repair.
·      Storage and transport.
·      Food hygiene, allergens and consumer safety. 
  
This training helps participants to:

Critically review current practices with a view to improvement.

Constructively consider revision of management systems.
·         Discuss industry trends and developments. 
·         Make a positive contribution to continual improvement.

Course length, cost and venue:

The Essentials of Hygiene 

What is this course?

A course developed to reflect the change in the perceived position and relative importance of hygiene in the production management mix for food packaging.  It is run on-site during one day, but covers all of the essentials of the subject in the context of packaging production.


Topics covered:

The job of a hygiene manager.
·    
The requirements of technical standards.
·    
 Hazard and Risk Management (aka ‘HACCP’).
·    
Personal hygiene; its implications and management.
·    Pest awareness.
·    The prevention of contamination
·    
Cleaning and waste control

Documentation; keeping it simple and making it work.

This training helps participants to:
·     Achieve an appropriate understanding of hygiene.
·     
Achieve credibility with Personnel.
·     
Assure factory and production standards and compliance.
·     
Deal effectively with customers, auditors and evaluators. 

Course length, cost and venue: 
The one-day on-site Essentials of Hygiene Course for up to six participants costs £450, to include a certificate of attendance for each participant.

System Development and Management 

What is this course? 
A newly devised course based on more that 20 year’s experience developing pragmatic and workable management system solutions in industry.  The course is designed to be time efficient and focused on what participants need to know to get the job done. 

Topics covered:
·         An overview of management systems and certifications.
·         A rational approach to system development and management.
·         Hazard and Risk Management (aka ‘HACCP’).
·         Factory and site; problems and solutions.
·         Personnel; setting standards and managing expectations.
·         Documentation; keeping it simple and making it work.
·         Audits and auditing. 

This training helps participants to: 
·         Identify and implement appropriate management controls.
·         Assure factory standards.
·         Plan training and motivate personnel.
·         Achieve continuing compliance with a Standard.
·         Deal effectively with customers, auditors and evaluators. 

Course length, cost and venue: 
The two-and-a-half day System Development and Management course costs £610**, to include coffee, lunch and tea, (but not overnight accommodation).  The course takes place at a venue in Shropshire conveniently close to the M6 and M54.

HACCP, 'HARM' and 'TACCP'
(Available ‘on-site’ exclusively for your company) 

What is this course?
 
This is a practical course/workshop appropriate to those responsible for, or involved in, managing and carrying out HACCP/HARM development and/or implementation.  The recently introduced TACCP process (Threat Analysis Critical Control Point) may be included as an option.  HACCP/HARM is demystified and placed in context; the course provides proven and workable solutions.  

Topics covered:

·        Background to Hazard and Risk Management*.
·        What the industry standards require.
·        The Hazard (Threat) Analysis process.
·        Let's do it! - a practical approach
·        Documenting and integrating with systems.
·        Achieving a credible outcome.


This training helps participants to:

·    Understand the principles and practice of HACCP/HARM.
·        Apply a realistic and pragmatic approach to HACCP/HARM.
·    Relate HACCP to management system standards (BRC, ISO, BSI).
·    Complete a credible HACCP/HARM plan.
·        Validate, verify, review and maintain the HACCP/HARM.


Course length and venue:
The one-day ‘HACCP and HARM’ course costs £500** when the course is provided at your site, or at a venue of your choice (paid for by your company).  Tutor’s expenses may be additional to this, according to geographical location.  It is recommended that a minimum of 6 and maximum of 12 attend.  To discuss or arrange a bespoke version of this course for your company contact Matt Ewart (details below).

Internal Auditing

What is this course?  
This is a course appropriate for supervisors and managers.  It is intended as preparation for both internal and supplier inspections and audits.  The practical nature of this course makes on-site activities essential, and a suitable venue must be available.  There is an optional 45 minute examination with certification.

·      What is an audit.
·      Audits and Inspections.
·     
‘Planning and preparation.
·     
Performing and audit.
·      Questioning techniques.
·      Typical problems and their solutions.
·      Reporting and follow-up.

This training helps participants to:

Have an understanding of auditing principles and practice.

Plan for and carry out audits.
·        
Approach auditing with confidence.
·        
Understand the questioning, investigative, methodology.
·         Encourage improvement through constructive follow-up.
 

Course length, cost and venue:
